Hopalong Hollow....

Hopalong Hollow, where the Blueberries grow sweet, and the moss feels soft beneath your feet.

Why is there always a cat in my lap?

I ask that question out loud every day.
I took advantage of the warm Autumn weather today and brought all my  materials out to the porch to work at the wicker table. But alas... I am never alone.
The cats would not let that happen....
If there is not a cat on my lap, then there is inevitably a cat sitting exactly where I do not want one.
The girls would be sitting on the rabbit heads had I not moved them 3 times already...the cats, not the rabbit heads.
.

 With felines on the table...
and a PEAHEN perched on the chair across from me....

and another peahen scolding me from atop the weeping Mulberry tree,
the roosters and hens stroll by whistling Dixie.

Every so often, I toss bits of bread to the birds that are hanging out, just off the porch.
 What a life!
Keats winks at me and asks for a belly rub.
Do you think I really got any work done today?
NOPE.. too many distractions.

  1. I understand an miss my kitties terrible! When our children were home we had three indoor cats and one large dog in the house. One night I said, "Why are all the humans in the house on the floor and the critters are on the couches. Something is wrong with this picture." Now our children are all grown and gone and we just have one small dog and we still feel bad taking him off the couch so we can lay down to watch TV. Love pictures of the critters that ask you to share their life with them. HA

    1. Judi, Life without Kitties? Oh dear, can't imagine it. I've had cats all my adult life... taking over the couch as you say...

  2. I was wondering how the boys were doing (big white ones.) When I saw the peahen I thought uh oh. They are very inquisitive and I'd have thought it would have pecked at everything on the table. Looks like fun today, but like you, I'd spend most of the time watching the goings on.

    1. Donna, the peahens are pretty nosy, but they leave my stuff alone as long as I am sitting there.. If I get up, who knows what mischief they would get up to!

  3. Oh Jeri ~ What a delightful post about your critters, who want to be around their loving care taker. I can totally understand why you didn't get anything done with all of them demanding attention. :-)

  4. teeeheee...teeeeheeeeee....now THOSE are the types of distractions I love, but then again, I'm not sitting there trying to get some serious needle felting done! Only poetry, that can come from such shenanigans and moments of total magic. JERI LANDERS, look at all those mouse and rabbit heads! YOU are on a roll, and heads roll when you get busy! teeeheheheee

Enjoy this magical time of year. I AM!

    1. It is a nice cozy corner, and the animals are really a blast... even if they won't leave me be.

  6. How wonderful to be surrounded by all your friends. They love to be close to you!
We are down to one indoor kitty who is spoiled rotten but in a good way! I have always said that pets know the best seat in the house.

  8. Dear Jeri, me thinks you are not complaining at all! Surely, you knew throwing bread crumbs about you would bring the menagerie! I think you had a very good excuse to be outside enjoying the fine Autumn weather and I'm sure your critters enjoyed it that much more because you were there. Thanks for including me!

    1. Yes Cathy, must confess, I do tend to attract attention with the bread scraps, tomatoes and a small jar of uncooked oatmeal...

  9. Jeri, this post greatly amused me. I could absolutely "see" the porch scene as it developed. Yes, you picked a very fine day to work outdoors, embraced by an attentive, interactive audience.

Even so, we won't have too many more lovely warm days, so why not enjoy the ambiance....

    1. Frances, yes, good thing I picked that day, the day after it was cold and windy.

  10. It seems a pleasant place to work. I have two small poodles that follow me everywhere, yes, even in there. And they will play under the sewing table and hit the pedal and lie down on the fabric on the floor I am working with and pick up stuff and walk off with it too. Hugs to all-kitties and birds and you!

  11. Oh, what lovely distractions, Jeri! As a girl, I was always in trouble because I was petting the animals or playing the piano, instead of taking care of my responsibilities! LOL Now I can do it without scoldings, and I still love it. It's the best!

  12. Gee I would have thought with all those animals around to help you would have finished in a flash. Don't you remember those little birds and mice in Cinderella helping her Fairy Godmother put together that wonderful dress she wore to the ball? You need to train your creatures to turn in and help you with all your little felted cuties. It's the least they could do. After all, they do get fed pretty well it looks like. A little work on their part would not come amiss.

    1. Well Vic, I must give them credit for inspiring me with their antics and they often make rather nice models.

  13. Dear Jeri - believe me I understand - well I don't have birds to bother me but cats and dogs for sure are quite the distraction. Hope you enjoyed the day anyway. Hugs!

  15. Jeri, This gave me a sweet warm belly laugh this morning!! (my Kitty Simon just weaseled himself on to my lap and made the screen turn blue! hee) I loved the picture with the kitty girl on the table with the squirrel head peeking over, and I see some wonderful critter heads lined up and waiting to become their selves!! :-) Such lovely atmosphere, a joy to see!!

  16. Dear Jeri,
I have returned from my break, and wanted t come over and see what you are doing in the Hollow.. How nice you were able to take your work outside, even if you did not get much done. The second photo made me chuckle! Cat on the lap? Of course... Where else would they want to be? Zoe is sitting on my lap as I type... You my friend, are a magnet for all creatures. Your loving nature brings them in.
Thank you for sharing a photo of dear Keats! He is such a beautiful companion. I hope he got his belly rub...
Talk about busy! I love all the rabbit heads... I am looking forward to seeing the completion.
    fondly,
    Penny
