little buds, precious spring blooms...

 Do you concur?

With coffee in hand, first thing in the morning, I stroll the gardens surrounding the house and grounds, searching for LIFE;
and finding it in the most delicate of colors and forms
and the heart shaped leaves of Violets.
 and lounging near the pond,
 Peepers!

The good earth promises much more to come;
 the softness of the Spring breeze tickles the feathers of all who venture into the garden.

I spent a week re-inventing the Potager Garden off the side porch.
 It is my traditional routine, every year, to enlarge and re-invent this Potagerie.
When first I planted it, the plot covered only about 70 square feet.

Now, it covers about 540 sq. feet,
separated into individual beds with timbers, rock and brick...Hopalong Hollowscaping.
"We" plant a variety of fruits, vegetables, flowers, herbs, roses and ground-covers in this garden.
I always have a lot of help with cultivating.
.
But these little feathered gardeners need constant reminding."Dig AROUND the plants, not INTO the plants!"
There is plenty more to sink into the earth, but we have a lot of time;
for this will continue all season long... I love that. Do you love to dig in the soil ?
 A dozen ladies visited here a few days back, they were purchasing books and art, and they brought me a lovely gift.
Now isn't that exactly what we garden folk love??!
More things to fill in the garden!
 Here's wishing you all  beautiful beginnings this Spring!
.
A quick flick.. you can't hear a word I am saying, but that doesn't matter, just feel that breeze....

  2. Oh Jeri, I do concur! Spring came just in time for me this year. The long winter seemed to never end. I enjoyed seeing your garden--I can't safely plant until May 1st--of course there are many perennials peaking through the good earth--and the spring bulbs. Your peacock is a beauty and looks right at home in your garden. ♥

  3. Spring certainly is a wonderful season. It's the one time of year that just about every day for at least a month you can go out and find something else pushing up out of the ground. I remember one spring day I came back inside all excited and told my husband that such and such was up and growing!! He looked puzzled and replied, "Well, did you think it had died out over the winter?" I said oh no, but it was up and growing and wasn't that fantastic! He just doesn't understand how exciting it is to see an old friend coming back for another season.

    Things are popping up here too. It's amazing how quickly just a few days of sunshine and warmer weather will pull things up out of the bare ground------it's all just down there waiting.

    1. My husband doesn't get puzzled anymore when I run in the house and tell him "there are 12 garden Phlox coming back in the side garden!!" Or some such exclamation. I know, it is so funny, I actually do go and count what's coming back, I bet you do too!

  4. Dear Jeri, I do concur! Such beautiful photos, and loved the video, just the sound of your voice is so comforting.. It looks as if spring is sprung. I find almost nothing more satisfying than digging in the dirt. I must say that was a thoughtful gift from the ladies...
    Wishing you a beautiful weekend.

  6. teeeheee....I love hearing that WOOF WOOF WOOF at the end of this glorious ode to spring. That magnificent bird showing off his colors, the GREENERY JERI, good gracious, bring it on, woman! Mother Nature gave us snow yesterday, but no worries; it didn't stick because it was too warm. Even watching the fat flakes drop to the ground was joy because we here know that winter has lost its bite. Spring is coming. And your plants, every one of those blue flowers sings joy to me. Blue is my favorite color for plants and you are wondrously robed in blue. REJOICE MY FRIEND!!!!! Anita

    1. Anita, It wouldn,t bother me if EVERYTHING bloomed in blues and purples, lilacs and lavenders. I also favor those shades in the garden..it's funny that they make there first and sometimes only appearance in the Spring. Cheers!

  9. I'm so glad to "be in" your garden again! Yours is much further along than mine. I've never seen a basket like that last one--where only one end is splayed. Very unique. I think I must go on the hunt for an old wheelbarrow. I love your plantings in it!

    1. Cathy, It is a gathering basket, I was so lucky to find it at an antiques shop a few years back, but I doubt it is very old because it is in really great shape.

  11. Jeri, this is a beautiful post, as we all begin to welcome spring. How I wish that I had a garden. Your pictures and enthusiasm and wisdom really to made me long to have a patch of land from which I might enocurage something to grow.

  15. Days of heaven, those of spring. Love it all, though I do wonder when you find time to garden. I've been away and can't even read all the blogs I've missed, but made time to look and see if you had posted. Can't miss one of your posts.

  16. Donna! I know where you are and who are with..your little bumblebee grandbaby! Well, I MAKE the time to garden because it is my joy, my hobby and my relaxation all at once. My art is my job, and I just need to get away from it sometimes.
