Hopalong Hollow....

Hopalong Hollow, where the Blueberries grow sweet, and the moss feels soft beneath your feet.

Where bears dwell....

Deep into the woods...
of Hopalong Hollow,

 There is  path that you can follow;

Winding neath cool canopies,

Of leafy, gnarled Chestnut trees,
Past river-bend and crystal spring,
  Where woodland Thrushes nest and sing;

 Just up and over the Blackberry fell....

Where Mamsey Bear and Mopkin dwell.

 Come with me....

Jeri,

You asked about the birdhouse fence picture that is the header on my blog. It is a fence in my backyard. My friend and I built it out of wood slabs from an old sawmill.

Many congratulations for completing such a huge undertaking. I would love to see the book when you have printed it.

How do you find the time to paint with seven gardens and all those animals to look after?

Just traipsed thru your village. Wonderful little place..like another commenter said..I'd like to just skip right into the pictures..skip down the windy paths..skip across the little bridge and have tea under the trellis. When you create these places (bridges, trellis', etc), do you feel the need to reproduce them at the Cottage?

Jeri Landers said...

Sheila, so glad you asked! I absolutely do recreate many aspects of my illustrations into my garden, landscaping and even our house. When we re-roofed our house, I found scalloped roofing that mimicked that found in my books. I use a lot of stone walls,and rustic walkways and arbors. In fact, you may recognize the potting shed and arbor in this illustration because they are also in my yard in a previous post. Eventually, I hope that all of our property will look like it came straight out of my books. I call it Hopalong Hollowscaping.

Sheila Garden Lady said...

Yes! I did notice the arbor..I called it a trellis in my comment. :) I do a lot of planning..in my head..for my gardens, but they generally evolve from whatever seasonal plants are ON SALE! My new year's resolution, to put pencil to paper and design some future gardens for my space on the Tenn. acres! Thanks so much for responding to my question!

You know I do love this. What a wonderful walk we took with you.

You are right, having my granddaughter sit at the art table and paint or draw with me is the best thing ever.

I am also working on a middle grade novel about a runaway slave and Sara May listens, makes very good suggestions, (such as Amma, would a kid know what lunge means?) and keeps me working on it.

Sending love across the miles. Your work makes me happy.
