Happy Birthday America!
A few thoughts from our Founding Fathers...
"Liberty, when it begins to take root, is a plant of rapid growth."
George Washington, letter to James Madison, March 2, 1788
Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood.
John Adams, A Dissertation on the Canon and Feudal Law, 1765
"They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759
"If it be asked, What is the most sacred duty and the greatest source of our security in a Republic? The answer would be, An inviolable respect for the Constitution and Laws — the first growing out of the last.... A sacred respect for the constitutional law is the vital principle, the sustaining energy of a free government."
Alexander Hamilton, Essay in the American Daily Advertiser, Aug 28, 1794
"Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves, therefore, are its only safe depositories."
Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia, Query 14, 1781
And, an additional thought from Rusty today:
"God bless America.... and God Bless fish!"
BRAVO!!! What great quotes of truth. May this country wake up to really see and appreciate our freedoms before it is too late. They are priceless.

ReplyDeleteHope you have a lovely July the Fourth around the Hollow, and just love the pictures....
Rusty is right-on! I LOVE FISH!!! GOD BLESS THE FISH IN THE DEEP BLUE SEA! And dear friend, my little robins flew away yesterday! This was Mrs. Robinson's second batch of babies and they were a little slower than the first brood. These four little guys were getting too big for the nest but wouldn't take off until yesterday. Mrs. Robinson hung around the nest a bit and I have a feeling she is not done yet! She is territorial and I don't think she is going to give up her lease until she exhausts her reproductive powers!!!! How are things on the farm this summer? Thank you for coming by. What fun I had on my vacation and meeting our dear Penny. She is a beautiful human being and I only wish I could have gone to her home and visit with her Jasper and see her wonderful place of creativity.
ReplyDeleteWishes to all for a safe and fun fourth!!! Anita
