I've only got a few days to finish the rest of my Woodland scene for the Gallery show, here is what I have so far....
Might have gotten a bit carried away when making the possums...
but a mama possum has a lotta kids.
. Those tails were easy to make.. they didn't need any fur.
Feet, hands and heads are my favorite elements while making a critter..
(and bonnets!)
I really worked on getting her mouth just right,
and the little boy possums tongue... can you see it?
Drucilla has 2 daughters ZUZA and Ceclily, and a son named Cyrus.
Who says a possum can't be lovely?
The bodies come together for the fox, raccoon and the badger, this requires SO much wool!
I think Gustave Fezziwig turned out to be quite dapper.
The sad part is that I have to send these out before I've even had a chance to
to know them better.
Parting is such sweet sorrow...
Today I will finish my Raccoon.
I am going to miss this possum family.... I sorta hope nobody buys them..
Love them all but you got the opossums spot on down to the fur. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteDonna, I've met many a possum in my time. They used to visit our mudroom with regularity, until we got the 2 Great Pyrenees.
DeleteBeautiful work! They are all perfect!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever made hand puppets for your creatures?
MAY, That is a very CUTE idea! I am working on a Badger and a Raccoon today, Maybe I'll give the badger a hand puppet, love it!
DeleteJeri
ReplyDeleteYour possum family is fantastic!! I love the way they are hanging on to mom. Yes, I can see his little tongue. Oh my, all those little toes, what a boat load of work that must have been. You did an excellent job on her mouth too. Love this set. Wish they were coming home to me. And Gustave is such a dapper little guy.
Such outstanding work, Jeri.
fondly,
Penny
Penny I so love this possum family! Maybe because I can relate to possums so well, as they used to be frequent visitors here. Thank you for the Kudos my friend!
DeleteJeri, just had to come back to see them again. I just want to give them a gentle hug! They are so adorable!
DeleteOh Jeri-these are all superb!!! You have captured the mouths perfectly. I always say that possums look like they are dead when they're alive-but you have gone beyond the creepiness and made them perfectly adorable. I LOVE the little fingers. Lovely, lovely!
ReplyDeleteDebra, It's a sorta of sweet creepiness for sure! I really worked on her lips and nose. I wouldn't want to make any more fingers and toes, what a job that is.
DeleteJeri,You are amazing! Each of your characters are true to their breed and then crafted with personality. The possum family is adorable, but I must say Gustave is my favorite! ♥
ReplyDeleteMartha, Gustave seems to be a favorite on the wool facebook page too. The fact that I paint and draw these creatures for my books, really helps when I sculpt them. I often refer to my own paintings for reference.
DeleteOh my. Opossum are such awful creatures, but she is incredible. And yes, the expression on each of them is exquisite and rather whimsical. And why that young fox is quite the handsome fellow. All such lovely work.
ReplyDeleteLocust, I was surprised at how many people actually like possums when I put these pics on my facebook page. I do like possums; they eat slugs and large insects and are rather docile. Of course, they also steal catfood and chicken eggs.
DeleteJeri Landers, HOW in THEEEEE SAM HILL......
ReplyDeleteYou have magical hands, fingers and lazer-strength EYES to see all the details! Another original work with such detail that can only be Jeri Landers. BRAVO!
Thank you ANita! Me and my critters and my magnifying specs!
DeleteGustave has stolen my heart to be sure. Would love to chat over tea and get to know him better. So dashing. Your incredible talent once again shows through.
ReplyDeleteIf he were to invite you to tea, you can be sure Quiche would be on the menu... I think Gustave will find a home pretty quickly... but I will miss him.
DeleteAbsolutely love Mr Gustave. He's adorable.
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to make a fox for myself. These are going to Asheville, NC for a Gallery show and I may never see him again! I really like him too.
DeleteJeri - your critters are just amazing. Love your possums. You did make them look so beautiful. See all God's creatures have their own special charm. You certainly captured it. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteMy mom always said that God has a good sense of Humor, that's easy to see when looking at a Possum or a Frog !
DeleteYou work at lightning speed to have accomplished so much since you showed them to us last month! They will be a hit at the Gallery Show. I look forward to hearing about it.
ReplyDeleteCathy, They'll be on display for 4 months, unless someone purchases, in which case I will have to replace them with another creature. So much work went into them, I really hate to part with them....it almost hurts!
