Hopalong Hollow says farewell to Summer..

Summer departs at just about the time we've had enough of it. Too much heat, too many weeds to pull, grass to cut, and browning gardens; but summer memories can be sweet and poignant  and each year, wonderfully different from the year before.
These are some from here in Hopalong Hollow.

  1. Jeri, this is my favorite video of yours. So peaceful and lovely accompaniment of music--sounds familiar. What is it? The creatures at the Hollow sure are cooperative subjects. All of the seed heads are delighting the sweet little finches. ♥

  2. Martha, that music is called "The Lakes", It's the soundtrack from "Miss Potter", now you know why it sounds familiar. I lay in wait for those finches each day to get movies, and I have a lot of footage! The hummingbirds have been more elusive, I only see them when my camera out of reach.

  3. So lovely! The music, videography, and most of all your garden with all God's creatures. Do you think male Peacocks know how beautiful they are?! Or do they just think spreading their tail feathers makes them larger?

    1. Cathy, They KNOW exactly how beautiful they are. They show off to anyone that crosses their path, from chickens, cats, ducks and even each other. Can you imagine all four of them strutting at once? They actually do it sometimes, I must get it on film one day!

  5. It was a sweet summer, and this year, either I've grown more observant or the weeds all around town have grown WILDER...I'm not sure which is the case! But everywhere I look, people's gardens are rife with this huge, ugly weeds that look as if they are dying. Even our blue sky rocket juniper, that suffered over the winter, strived to live through the summer. Now it looks as if it has said, "I give up." OH well, that's gardening for you.

    1. Anita, that certainly is the way of it. My garden was slow to bloom in June, thriving in July, and looking like a wild field in AUgust. But by the end of the summer, I am DONE with gardening.

    1. Wendy, It's still as hot as it was in August here in Tenn. I planted fall crops in my Potager, so I will be gardening for a few more weeks at least. It is very funny to be finding little 6" watermelons still growing on the vines.

  8. Jeri, I just wanted to thank you for your blog. I very often click on people who respond to your posts and I find another great blog to read and follow. Like minded people for me to enjoy their farms, art and hear their desires. I so wish I had started a blog many years ago but I'm not very "techy" If I could draw a blog I would. HA!
