Autumn planting...

Autumn is a good time to prepare a Basket Garden and plant flower seed for next year's blooms.
Just weave a "basket" against any building you want to feature, using your fall prunings from vines or rambling roses. I use wisteria which I must trim off  an arbor in the Spring AND the Autumn. If I don't prune that thing it will swallow our house! I weave the whips in and out between rebar that I've pounded into the earth, about 1 ft apart.
This garden is a combination of bulbs, annuals planted from seed and perennials.
This is the time to plant your bulbs AND drop some seeds for annuals. Zinnias will be very successful for you, no matter where you live.
It's a pleasure to do a last bit of gardening in the fall as the temps are lower.
This video is my basket garden in Spring and again just last week.
I missed the summer edition, but it looked totally different in JUNE
Enjoy your garden while you still can.... it will be snowing before you know it!

  1. Wow. Jeri, it's wonderful to hear your voice and see your beautiful garden in living action. Your plantings are so lovingly presented and demonstrate a connection, a partnership with you. Isn't it great to live by the seasons?

    Enjoy your autumn garden!!!

    1. Thanks Anita, for watching the video. I'm ready for fall, but this garden is the last of summer here in the Hollow, so I bid it a fond farewell.

  2. You live in such an idyllic world (of your own making!). You made me smile this morning with Mr. Peabody showing off to a rooster. -Jenn

    1. HI Jenn, Mr Peabody has since dropped all his tail feathers and is no longer as impressive as he thought he was! Until next year......

    1. Those dogs used to lay INSIDE that Basket.... I had to put up another foot of wire fencing atop the wattle to keep them out. Stinker!

    1. I do think gardens are most beautiful in the rain. You can never quite capture it on film, because the clean scent of the rain is missing.

  6. I love looking at your garden. Everything looks so green and lovely. But I'm very jealous of that rain (compliments of Harvey I guess). We have had maybe an inch since sometime in early July! It's big cracks in the ground time around here with higher temperatures for the foreseeable future. I keep on watering with the hose every day or so but that's just a drop in the bucket. I have a long list of plants I'd planned on transplanting when things cooled off and it started to rain again but may just put all those plans off till next spring. Sigh.....

    1. Vic, It was soon after Harvey that we got that lovely rain, none since then. Oh I do pity your lack of water! It's so depressing to watch your plants die of thirst. May you have a thunderous rain cloud over your heads very soon!

  7. Hello dear friend,
I just love viewing your beautiful garden, and really enjoyed the video. Your voice is so comforting, and love the music. I adore your potting cottage, think I could live there.. Is that a painted fox on your glass window?
    Thank you for sharing.
    Wishing you a beautiful week.
    fondly,
