Another finished Illustration, a fox an a garden

The 3 hour drive to Berea didn't leave me with idle
hands and I managed to needle-felt a  character familiar to any that live on a farm.
I worked on her in the hotel room as well, and by the time we were home again she had a little companion.

I was tempted to put a chicken or duck in her mouth, as that would have been truer to form,
but I settled for a little squirrel instead....to keep her on her toes.

.

Happily, I had no REAL ducks or chickens  missing when we arrived home.
I sent the Vixen into the garden to play, where the Lavender seemed to have grown  a foot in the last 4 days.

 Oh Joy!

P.S.
Another finished Illustration for Pippity Trimble...
The actual size of the pages in the book will be quite small at 6" square.
Today I get to paint a favorite insect, a Mantis; he is also a character in the book.

    1. I haven't made many foxes, still trying to perfect the bodies. I love sculpting the faces, they have such a distinct look. Many needle felting specialize in only dogs... I can understand why.

  3. Your fox looks like ours! We "caught" one on the field camera one night picking up the dead skunk we discovered on the path in our woods. Ken was going to dispose of it in the morning but it was gone and we found out why when we viewed the camera. We know our fox is male because after picking up the skunk and shaking it, it dropped it on the ground and lifted its leg over it and left. It came back later and took it away.

    1. P.S. Our neighbor saw our fox early one morning chasing the squirrels up the trees in her front yard.

    1. I haven't come out with a new book in 3 years, so I knew I had to get busy with this series. I'm excited about it because the size is so small, whereas my other books are 12" square.

  5. Goodness gracious, you never disappoint. The movements that you freeze in time are so familiar, so real, and this is why you are the Beatrix Potter of our time. You never compromise on realistic features, but by adding the coats, bonnets and other wardrobe items, you make each character come alive in a 3D way. This is one foxy lady!teeeeee

    1. I wish I were the Beatrix Potter of our time, we certainly have a lot in common as far as sheep, gardening and a love of animals and nature. I know I am as stubborn as she was!

  8. LOVE that fox! Oh it's just wonderful. So is the painting. Is she scrubbing the cobblestones? I can see she is going to be a very industrious little creature!

    1. I am overwhelmed to be thought of as the Beatrix of our time, by both of you... because I respect your opinions and because BP has been my favorite storyteller for the past 40 years. Thank you for that!
