Happy 239th Birthday!

  Happy 239th Birthday America!

"A Republic, if you can keep it" Benjamin Franklin
Quote:
" The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more" John Adams
We actually ended up celebrating our LIBERTY, our Freedom and our INDEPENDENCE on the 4th of July, rather than the 2nd.
This is a good time to actually read the Declaration of Independence.
We have strayed far from the original intent of our forefathers, but I will still put my hand on my heart and thank God for my country.
James and I have been watching the series "John Adams". I highly recommend, It is so excellent.
You can find it on "watch  instantly" on Netflix,
Sorry, I meant Amazon Prime

Happy Birthday fellow Americans!

  2. I hadn't heard about the John Adams series, but will watch for it. Did you watch the PBS series about the Roosevelt's? Different war but astonishing people. They just don't make them like it any more. Love your America painting. Mine will be quiet as we are spending it on the farm and the kids aren't coming. First time ever not celebrating it, but, it will be kind of nice not to prepare and clean up the mess. Don't tell the kids I said that. Happy day to you.

  6. OK....next show to watch on Netflix: John Adams! I LOVE these types of stories, the stories of our nation. Jeri dear, HAPPY JULY! We spent our day at home, lazy and happy. Creative and pensive, we sat together to read, write, and just enjoy another fleeting day in the garden. HAPPY SUNDAY my dear!

OH! I have a nature question for you. We have what we think is a WREN nesting in our birdhouse. The other day as I was coming home with groceries, I unlocked my back door, opened the door when suddenly a flash of feathers ATTACKED and it all happened so fast that I shooed the bird away. I proceeded to go into the house with the groceries. HOWEVER, as I'm in the bathroom, I hear a scuffle and a TWEET TWEET! Yep, the little darling of a bird came into the house. Got her out, proceeded to put away the groceries when I hear ANOTHER TWEET TWEET! Got her/him out. WHAT IN THEE WORLD?

Why did these birds charge and go straight into the house? This happened once a few summers back when we were leaving the house. A bird flew right into Ruben's chest, seeming to want to get into the house. Are they trying to tell us to stay out of THEIR garden? teeehehehe....I will check back here for a reply!

    LOVE, Anita

  7. Anita, it seems like the birds are protecting their nest. They are charging into you, not really into the house. I have seen the barn swallows dive-bombing our dogs, our cats and even us as we sit on the porch. This happens every year as they build nests and raise babies under the porch eaves. I had a devil of a time getting a "lost birdie" out of the house about a week ago. Better watch out until the babies have flown away! James and I just had a friend over for the 4th. We had a lovely traditional meal and watched the rain all day from our covered porch. Thankfully, all the baby Barn-swallows had already gone bye bye!

  8. Dear Jeri - this sounds like a great series. Haven't caught it - will check it out at the library - sometimes they carry these type of programs. Hope your fourth of July was wonderful. I agree with you too about America but I still put my hand over my heart as well. Also doing a lot of "looking up" - that is where our nation needs to go! They just might find some answers there. Hugs!

  9. Hi Jeri! I haven't seen the documentary, but I have read the wonderful Pulitzer prize winning biography written by David McCullough. It was wonderful! Would love to see this series. The American Revolution was a sheer miracle. So many incredible men brought together for such a seemingly impossible cause and yet they succeeded against all odds! Incredible!! Can you tell I'm just a wee bit passionate about American history? :)

  10. Hi Jeri, ((I'm so very late))
John Adams dvd is one of those that are in our library and I agree it is very good! We took a trip to VT during this time of the 4th of July, and I also had hand surgery from an injury that rendered a finger immobile (Ouch) still healing.
I am imagining that this is your busiest time of year with plenty of shows hope all is successful!! Those critters are just so amazing and desirable!!
Sending warmth and love out to you and James and all at the Hollow!! Linnie Lou
