Off my head puh-leese!

Oi! Do you ever get the feeling that a bird is sitting on your head?
That used to happen to me all the time...with Esther.
I'm glad she wasn't as large as Minerva...
,
Poor little garden maiden! It's a good thing her noggin is as hard as a rock.
See Minerva's wee babe in the corner? Both of our peahens hatched 3 eggs this year. This is one of the younger babies. The 3 month old pea chicks are nearly ready to be adopted. I wish I could keep them all, but I can't. First however, I must ascertain the males from the females,  and that is very difficult to do in the peafowl world at this young age because they have not yet developed their colors. Hmmm, maybe I can keep them just a bit longer.....
Fondly from the Hollow, Jeri

  1. Hi Jeri,
Now this is funny! I wonder what she was thinking anyway... I do see the babies. How cute are they. And dear little Esther.. She loved you so... I have never seen a wild bird take to someone like she did with you.
I am sure the babies will be around the Hollow for more than a little while..
    Have a great week Jeri.
    fondly,
    Penny

  2. teeheee.......I am reminded of my parakeet George, whom my mother hated with the heat of a supernova. But, she fed him (I was just a kid)....I'd let him out of his cage and he'd play with me, sit on my shoulder. But he would fly onto mum's head and bend down to look at her straight in the face and TWEET! She would spew out expletives in Spanish and George would FLY AWAY into my chest...teeeheee

OH THAT MINERVA! She must find another perch! But the garden maiden doesn't mind! And her little chick is precious...I can see it!

Yes Jeri darlin', keep those little wonders a little while longer until the colors come through...the lord of the manner won't mind, will he? HEY! I keep seeing wild turkeys during my walks in the neighborhood! And mum has about six chicks that are grown to be adolescents! teeehhe

Did you ever find out what that extraterrestrial-looking insect house was about?

    1. Linnie, the pea chicks make the sweetest little whistling sound and mama answers with a cluck and a rat a tat a tat. I will miss the babies when they are adopted.

    2. oh how sweet... ok send them up to NY!! Hee!!

Jeri you are soo fortunate to have James be your personal cook! If that were left to my GarBear we would only eat peanut butter and jelly and spaghetti and maybe canned cream of mushroom soup!! (although he does have many other good attributes so I won't complain)! James you ROCK!! :-D
      Blessings Dearest Jeri, Linnie

PS your hornet experience on a ladder ,with the Movie Star lips story although chilling, was quite a belly chuckle story!!

  6. GOOD GLORY...those hornets mean BUSINESS! I got bitten the other day by a wasp who was trying to protect her next near the hose and her sting was enough to send me screaming clear to the other side of the garden! A red bump and a few minutes later, Ruben attempted to destroy the nest so we could access the hose! YES, stay away from that domicile until winter!

(and yes, George the parakeet was one scrapy little bird!)

    1. Anita, I was once cleaning a window when I disturbed a wasp nest in the eaves.A swarm of wasps flew into my face ( I was standing on a ladder and couldn't fight them off) They stung me umpteen times, mostly on my lips... talk about bee stung lips! I looked hilarious with these huge lips, as if I'd had some really bad plastic surgery... thank God the swelling went away by the next day. Those are some wicked little critters for sure!

    2. OH JERI, you were brave to stay calm during your experience on the ladder! One sting was enough for me (it was my first, ever!)

Oh, the joys and mishaps of summer!!!

  10. Dear Jeri - this certainly makes me smile. I don't think I have ever had a bird sit on my head - maybe it would help inspire me though (LOL). Good luck with deciding which are boys and which are girls. I wouldn't hurry though so you can keep them a smidgen longer! Have a great week-end.

  13. What an enchanting place you have there Jeri! Lucky you, to get to live among such beauty and have all those critters to love. I had a lovebird once and she used to love to sit on my head, too. I would love to take some of those peahens off your hands if only I could!
