Hibernation HoeDown... Book Endpaper art

These bears are having a jolly good time.  Eating pies, drinking apple cider. doing the Conga, the Tango, the
Jitterbug and even the waltz...  What a blast!

They are quite loud and boisterous...but never obnoxious. They are inviting my readers into my book... because they are doing all these activities on my endpapers... I can barely keep them from dancing off the page! They are having a Hibernation Hoe Down. "One last bash, Before we Crash!, is what they say.

Many Storybooks do not have End paper art, it is a lot of extra work for the artist. But I wanted to fit  these frolicking bears, somewhere in my book, and the endpapers seemed just the right spot.

  Come and party with us!

Fionna  was not present at the Hoe Down, but since she IS in this book, we included her little movie trailer,as well.
Also, a rather remarkable thing happened. Our missing Peahen, the reluctant bride, the new bird that disappeared into the wild, wide wood... that one? She Returned! She suddenly reappeared in our driveway after having been gone for 10 days. I guided her back across the bridge and up to the farmyard, where she has been happily pecking away at the grain now for about a week. I am so thrilled! Both brides are home at last.

  1. Wow I can't believe Peahen came back especially after all that time. That is great! You must have been so surprised.

    Your endpapers are exquisite!!!.

  2. Jeri, I'm simply stunned by your talent! I truly enjoyed both clips & watching your art come to life before my eyes!

Nice to have the run-away bride back too! :)

  3. Oh Jeri,
What a joyful endpaper! They are dancing up a storm, and so very happy looking.. I must return to take another look.. I get so excited, I am sure I have missed something.. and Fiona! You do such beautiful work Jeri.. I am just in awe of all the work that has gone into this endpaper.. I hope now you can get some much needed rest.

I am thrilled to hear Peahen came home!

  4. Oh my dear Jeri,

First of all, I've been away on a bit of a "vacation" in California with family and it was so fun. But my auntie is aging now and needs assistance, so I went out to see her and tried to lend a helping hand to arrange the transition she will be making from home to assisted living....heartbreaking.

Dearest, what are END PAPERS? I have no clue, but one thing I do know is that your art, music and spirit that you communicate all enchant. I am home, I can visit, and I am so happy. Oh those dancing bears and Miss Fiona? She is a superstar! AND GOOD TO KNOW that peahen is back to pecking away on familiar territory! She's practicing her hen-pecking JUST in case she changes her mind and decides on a bridegroom!!!!!!!!!

    Much love, Anita

    1. Anita,When first you open the book, one side of the paper is glued to the inside of the book cover and the other half is loose, creating a page to turn. Usually these papers are pure white or a solid color. These two halves make up the endpapers.

  5. Good morning dear Jeri ~ What a delightful post to read this morning. A smile was on my face and joy in my heart reading and viewing your little videos. You have such a wonderful God-given talent, or I should say several of them.

I am so glad your pea-hen came home, that is so neat.

Thank you for shedding some joy in my heart today. I loved the different 'bear couples' dancing.!!!

Love and hugs to you dear Jeri ~ FlowerLady

  6. DELIGHTFUL! It's like magic watching your superb illustrations come to life in watercolor. So inspiring. And I'm so happy for you that the Mrs. Peahen returned home after having flown the coop. She must have had cold feet about her wedding night!! Best wishes to you and your menagerie :)

  7. Jeri, Your post always brighten my day and are an inspiration. I would so love to join e bears in a little Waltz or two. Hoe wonderful to have everyone home where they belong. Have a wonderful day. Bonnie

  8. Wonderful post, Jeri. Glad the wayward girl returned.

  9. Dear Cousin Jeri,

What a happy good time Bear celebration on your endpapers!

Fiona's movie was so lovely and relaxing as we see the colours being painted in!

So glad your peahens have returned to delightful Hopalong Hollow bliss!

    Your cousins,
Diane, daughter Sarah, and Tillie Tinkham the seamstress mouse at the Corgyncombe Courant

  10. Jeri, I am so happy that we now have 2 couples of the feathered variety. Hope they behave now - I'm hoping that there's another book staring the Peabody Boys and their wives!
Wow, the end pages, are we close to being sent to the printers? I am anxiously awaiting purchasing multiple copies of book 3, sure would make my holiday shopping easy. I love the Hoe Down and the music was perfect,
    Lvu Deborah Rogers Mercy

    1. Pretty close Deborah, I just need to design a bookplate, but we have 2 consecutive artshows coming up, so i won't be designing till after the 20th.

  11. HI Jeri! Your art is superb. And the music adds a touch of extra beauty...I love the harp! When will your book be out? Truly, this kind of artistic expression is full of something that whispers of something that beckons the soul to a heavenly place. Lovely! And so glad the runaway bride has returned home!

    1. Thank you! I am hoping to have books "in hand" by late summer or early fall. I will announce it on this blog, for sure.

  12. Oh, Jeri, you are getting down to the last wee bits. I love it. I definitely need to order a signed copy for a special birthday present for a sweet little someone I love.

You have outdone yourself, and that it saying a lot!

May your brush and shovel be guided to ever greater beauty, and your heart be warmed with love and sunshine.

  13. I loved watching your art come alive in these video's Jeri. Your talent is so incredible. I can't wait for your new book. It will be what I add to my collection this year.
Today a friend stopped by and noticed your little paper cutting garden on my bookcase. She said it was so beautiful. Of course I agreed and then proceeded to point out your work all around my house. Your work makes me smile every single day.
So glad the brides have returned! :)
    Hugs to you my friend.

  14. Wow, I can't believe she showed back up! That's fantastic!

And as always, I love your art. I think the bears at the end are perfect! :)

  15. How like your generosity of spirit to adorn your book with such
exquisite endpapers rather than open the adventure with blanks.
Nice that Mz Peahen realized how good she had it in the Hollow and found her way home again...never could fathom why she would
wander...curiosity? Now she knows and, hopefully, is no worse for the wear.
At last, I spy No 3 at the end of the tunnel and thank you with
a bursting heart for sending us another golden treasure....the
Grands are dancing with anticipation in fine Hoe-down fashion.

Missing you all and wishing you Summer blessings ~

    Our Mary

  16. Oh Jeri,

Does this mean that you're almost DONE? Hooray! I'm so glad that Mrs. Peabody has returned; that happens so rarely!

  21. Hi Jeri,
    How did the festival go?
Can't tell you how much I love these BEARS!

Thank you my friend, for your most kind words (too kind)... I too, always wanted a horse as a child. I see now it was not meant to be.
I would love one day to see one of your drawings of a horse head.
