Well, I knew that it would eventually come to this. A red blooded Peabody Boy can take only so much frustration.
These gents have had 2 years in which to learn the proper etiquette, dance moves and perky conversation needed for wooing a future bride, but things being what they are in the Hollow, no feminine hopefuls emerged.
Despite all the geese, ducks, chickens, barn swallows, sparrows, robins, doves AND the occasional crane, we simply had no available females interested in flashy dressers with self important attitudes.
Hence, we went window shopping for eligible, vivacious and willing females who would fit the bill, so to speak.

So many lovely ladies to choose from, but with beauty being only feather deep, we had to question each and every possible mate.
.
We inquired of each young lady:
" Are you willing to sleep in the trees? Do you mind having a husband who is prettier than you?? How do you feel about children? Would you be willing to have a dozen or more? Will you let your waist and hips expand after the age of 50? ( oops, that is on a different survey) . What do you think about a mate with a very short attention span?
Would you be bothered by a guy that followed you around all day long? And on the other side of the coin, Would you be bothered by a husband who stared at his reflection for hours at a time? What about a husband with a fairly low IQ? Can you abide someone with a REALLY screechy voice?"
If you are okay with all of the above, then you best prepare your trousseau, for we have just the gents for you!
Hans and Moses meet Minerva and Lottie.... Your brides to be! Peabody girls!
(Lottie is hiding behind a box on the floor... I think she is playing "hard to get")
This may take awhile, very little conversation is going on.... only awkward pecking. I think my boys have forgotten their manners.
The Gazette will update you on wedding plans... just as soon as these couples make up their minds.

Cute post! Can't wait to see the babies.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to the brides! LOL
ReplyDeleteOh boy, Jeri. Sadly, I could not keep them from walking down the road to visit neighbors who didn't want them to visit or being hit by cars and wylie coyote finally ended our peacock world. Their loud calls never did bother me, just the poop on the sidewalks where they roosted on the garage roof. Maybe if I had just held them more when they were babies.
What lovely brides to be you have found.. I think this will work out very well indeed! Yes, please keep us posted on the wedding plans..
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the most welcome visit Jeri.. I am so happy you like her.. Thank you so much for your encouraging words.
Enjoy your week.
fondly,
Penny
HOW DID I MISS THIS YESTERDAY? Wait...I know... I was out in my garden all day helping MY MATE put up screen on our deck, so we can sit out in our garden and enjoy the cardinals, the occasional passing rabbit and other sundrie creatures, MOSQUITO-FREE!
ReplyDeleteWell let me just say that I'm glad I am NOT a pea hen! What a pea hen has to live with if she wants to marry! A husband prettier than her, a mate who follows her around constantly, a lower IQ....hmmmm....what a girl has to endure! But love is in the air at The Hollow, and soon we shall see the handsome groom strutting his feathers at the barnyard alter as SHE strutts down the aisle. Tell us dearest, who will give the brides away?
OH JERI LANDERS you crack us up! This is yet another tale to tell and pictures to paint! YOU MUST WRITE ABOUT THE DOUBLE WEDDINGS of Hans and Moses! Tehehehehehehheehehee
What a joy for me today to see your visit (thank you for the kind words!) and for this hilarious story. Let's see, what shall I wear to this most unusual wedding?!
LOVE! Anita
P.S.
ReplyDeleteJust this morning, I dreamt that the sky was full of flying peacocks! Such a strange dream, but there was an infestation of these birds EVERYWHERE above my head. Then I see this post...WILD!
hmmmm..i dated several guys that fit that description perfectly!
ReplyDeleteHah! Me too!
Deletethe girls are very lovely. hopefully the MR.s will think so too. Have a great week
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet, happy post! It has me smiling and I hope they pair off nicely and that we will soon be seeing little ones.
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs ~ FlowerLady
How exciting...baby peacocks:) I don't recall ever seeing any pictures of little ones. I went and googled...they are adorable:)
ReplyDeleteSo sweet of you to find them mates ! I look forward to updates. The farm up the road has peacocks , they make the oddest most outrageous of sounds .Nothing lilting about their voices lol but their voices now make me giggle fom afar ... afar being the key.
ReplyDeleteThey're so sweet! I've often wanted peacocks, but I don't think they would do well here.
ReplyDeleteDear Cousin Jeri,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your pretty Peahen girls! Just be on the watch for any Turkey boys wandering through as the girls might just prefer them! We sold a Peahen to someone and he took her home and had her just a little while when she took off with a bunch of Turkey boys! I don't know why they took off with the turkeys as their Peacock fellows were more handsome! Maybe it had something to do with personality! I hope yours stay home, they are all beautiful!
Your cousins,
Diane, daughter Sarah, and Tillie Tinkham the seamstress mouse at the Corgyncombe Courant
What a lovely pair of ladies! Wishing I could come and sketch the beautiful feathers and elegant finery of their millinery...
ReplyDeleteKeep your readers up to date on your couples. It's almost like a wee little visit with a glass of sweet tea. I just love love love your blog, Jeri.
Our neighbors down the road had peacocks, and I grew up hearing their wonderful calls echoing across the countryside on late summer evenings. Such wonderful birds! Best of luck on the upcoming nuptials :)
ReplyDeleteDear Jeri,
ReplyDeleteHooray for the Peabody Boys! And may their ladies find the strength to deal with them. :)
Love,
Marqueta
may your beautiful birds feel like family soon ~
ReplyDeletelove the preliminary questions ;-)
Hello Dear,
ReplyDeleteWOW !!! this post is up my alley. Your peacocks are gorgeous and the peahen beautiful.
I have been raising peacocks over 20 yrs. now. I have white ones Blue ones and pie ones. Pie are a mix between a blue and a white. A site to behold. If you need and questions answered, I would love to answer them for you. Such as the mating process. Did you know that a white female will not mate with another white, if their is a blue male around unless you have them caged up together? There is something else you should know about the thresome...LOL.Since I would not want to sound like a know it all.I'll answer if you want me too.
Most of all Enjoy them. They are truly one of Gods most beautiful birds.

Hi Jeri,
ReplyDeleteI went to your website and that is when I realized you are the artist behind all this amazing art! This is absolutely fabulous! Oh Jeri dear, that picture of you centered at the garden gate behind the Peabody boys is simply exquisite. Those birds are particularly gorgeous creatures and not the least bit intimidated
