This is a terribly busy time of year for me, with one show after another.
I have only one book illustration to complete and it would have been finished if I had not had to make 22 birds for a show this coming weekend.

I chose a variety birds out of my Bird Books and made the most appealing.. well, ALL birds are appealing, but I only have so much time.
From Chickadees to Tanagers and even a Fionna Goosefeathers...
Many had never visited Hopalong Hollow before, such as this Townsend Warbler.
And others are frequent guests here in the Hollow..
I do have my favorite birds, Woodpeckers are at the top and wrens are very dear to me.
All in all, a pretty colorful flock of beauties I think.
I loved making these birds!
And it all started with wire and a handful of wool.
What are YOUR favorite birds of the world?
You know I have a thing for birds, Jeri. Fiona looks alive. Good luck on all the shows and hopefully you can catch your breath soon.
ReplyDeleteYes Donna, you do! In fact, you have one of my favorites.
DeleteYour birds are so perky and alert and they look alive. Some of my favorite birds are all owls, mourning doves and bluebirds.
ReplyDeleteTerra, I LOVE DOVES as well, especially the melancholy call they make. I will attempt to make an owl at some point.
DeleteJeri, Your work is amazingly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much my friend. It helps when one's subject is so very interesting and delightful.
DeleteYour birds are beautiful! It's chilly here today and your post was such a pleasant reminder of the Tanigers, Chickadees and Cardinals that kept my feeder busy all summer.
ReplyDeleteConstance, we don't see many Tanagers, but the Cardinals here are as abundant as the sparrows!
DeleteOh my goodness Jeri - I adore your flock...Chickadees and Hummingbirds are my favorite...with bluebirds coming in third. Hope you have a great day. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debbie, I am having a great day.... cuz I have a bunch of birds in my house!
DeleteHow can you possibly bear parting with them! They make a beautiful display on your rack.
ReplyDeleteCathy, it is really difficult to part with them. I could have sold a few already, but I was determined to finish all 22 birds so that I could have a nice showing. I will be very sad to sell the DOVE... and The Oriole...and the Wren.
DeleteOh my goodness Jeri. These are adorable! You are so talented. I loved seeing Fionna Goosefeathers.
ReplyDeleteCardinals and little chickadees are a couple of my favorite birds.
Have a wonderful show ~ Love & hugs ~ FlowerLady
Lorraine, Aren't chickadees the sweetest little birds?! I need to practice mine, so that they are smaller and rounder.
DeleteThese are amazing, you're so talented. Beautiful, slightly folk art-ish. They remind me of Pennsylvania carved folk art bird groupings. My favorite bird is the oystercatcher--they mate for life and pairs or trios [they do threesomes!] arrive each year on St Paddy's Day, and leave promptly Oct 2nd. That said, I love almost all the shore birds---except the mean terns that attack me as I walk.
ReplyDeletelizzy at gone to the beach
Liz, I never saw an Oyster Catcher before. I guess they really like family life! I have a great collection of carved shorebirds, I've been collecting birds for many years now.
DeleteThese birds are just wonderful. They look sooooooo real! Love the woodpecker.
ReplyDeleteThese were more fun to make than the mice and rabbits and I did try to make them more realistic.
DeleteOh Jeri, what a beautiful flock of birds! I don't know how your hand stood up to all this felting. Such a wonderful collection. I love Fiona Goosefeathers, and this Scarlet Tanager has such a sweet face, I know she will be magnificent. They are all beauties.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite bird in the world is the chickadee, and in second place would be the hummingbird.
Wishing you the best in your upcoming shows.
With great admiration and love
Penny
Penny, for some reason it didn't bother my hand at all. It really helped to use that Clover felting tool that has 5 needles in it for doing wings and tails. You probably have one of those?
DeleteHOLY COW. HOLY MOLY, HOLY you know what...........
ReplyDeleteJeri, what in thee Sam Hill can I say about your prolific talents that are incomprehensible? I MEAN, the speed and precision with which you produce such likeness is other-wordly my friend! I LOVE EACH ONE OF THESE!
My favorite bird of the world? OK, how about you think about making one of these:
A white "umbrella" cockatoo, you know the guy, with the crest on his head?
Then this one: a white PEACOCK! Let's see ya challenge yourself with those two! I bet you could do it.
You rock once again, woman!
Anita! Love those dancing Cockatoos ooh, that would be tricky to make Peacocks, not sure about that one either..those tail feathers would be a real challenge Seems like Penny made a peacock once?
ReplyDeleteI love each and every one Jeri! So nice to have a moment this morning to hop over and visit you in the hollow.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Dear Jeri, They are simply wonderful! I would have a hard time choosing a favorite bird, but you have definitely made some of my favorites. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Marqueta
